In working to fulfill our mission, the Recreation Department stays in close contact with the community to ensure Department policy and activity reflects the community's interests and needs.
Millis Recreation Program COVID-19 Update
Thank you for your patience over the past few months as we have navigated the uncharted waters of this health emergency. The Recreation Department has been working tirelessly to generate creative social media content, new virtual programs and develop unique and viable program options for both summer and fall. We've participated in as many calls and webinars as possible to gather information and have lent a hand to departments throughout town in order to support our community as best we can through these uncertain times. Through all of this, we have kept in mind that in person programming is part of our community, especially during the summer, and we have not given up hope!
We remain in constant communication with the Recreation Committee, Millis Board of Health and Town Administration; all with the goal of offering residents active social activities. Additionally, we've received guidance from the Commonwealth's Outdoor Recreation Taskforce, the National and Massachusetts Recreation and Park Associations and American Camp Association. AS WE BEGIN THE FOUR INITIAL PHASES TOWARDS OUR "NEW NORMAL" WE KNOW THAT SUMMER 2020 WILL BE DIFFERENT. Many of our popular programs, as we previously know them, will not be able to be offered within these revised protocols. However, Millis Recreation is committed to developing a plan to offer several smaller programs that can be run safely, while adhering to all physical distancing and revised health protocols.
We know there will be many hurdles, but we love programming too and remain optimistic!
As we await additional guidance from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Department of Public Health (DPH), we have begun the process of planning for three unique in person programs for July 2020. We still have many details to finalize in terms of participant limits, staffing ratios & locations; however, with a team in place who are prepared to continue spending their tireless efforts on those details we continue to move forward. Upon the receipt of final programming guidelines, from the State and DPH, in the coming days and weeks we intend to provide more specific details on our summer 2020 program descriptions such as: ages, locations, registrations details and new procedures.
As always, we appreciate your continued patience, and understand Summer 2020 will be different, but want you to remember that Millis Recreation is committed to remaining a safe outlet for Millis families and to bring joy to the coming months!
